Tour 4 - The Golden Coast of Southern Wales

 

A fantastic day out starts with a trip to the seaside before getting back to nature.  Then onwards to a traditional market town and castle and then rounding off the day with a spot of retail therapy.

Stop 1 - Porthcawl (CF36 3DT)Porthcawl Front 01 HD

A favourite with generations of holidaymakers, pedestrian town centre and promenade with scenic views of the sandy beaches and sea.  The Waverley Paddle steamer sails in the summer to various destinations along the coast. The Grand Pavilion has a wide selection of popular shows on during the year.

Stop 2 - Kenfig National Nature Reserve (CF33 4PT)
Kenfig Pool, Glamorgan's largest natural lake, is set on edge of this beautiful sand dune nature reserve. It has some of the finest wildlife habitats in Wales with wild orchids, butterflies and birds. Visitor centre and small shop on site


Stop 3 - Bridgend

2011.04.21 028Welsh market town with a warren of tiny narrow streets, crammed with interesting local shops and restaurants. Attractions in the area include the castles at Newcastle and Ogmore and the Ewenny Pottery and Craft Centre.

 

 

 

Stop 4 - Coity Castle (CF35 6BH)  Coity Castle 01
Once an important Norman power base, it withstood a siege by Owain Glyndwr in 1404, and abandoned at the end of the 16th century.  Today you can see the large gatehouse, tall imposing towers and a curtain wall.

 

Stop 5 - Bridgend Designer Shopping Outlet (CF32 9SU)
The centre has nearly 90 shops selling major brand labels with 60% off every day and a food court that can cater for all tastes.
